Here's a basic guide for a classic Windsor knot:

  1. Drape the Tie: Start with the wide end of the tie on your right side and the narrow end on your left. The tip of the narrow end should sit slightly above your belt line.

  2. Cross the Ends: Cross the wide end over the narrow end, forming an X near your neck.

  3. Wrap Around: Wrap the wide end behind the narrow end from right to left.

  4. Up and Through: Bring the wide end upward, passing it through the loop around your neck. It should emerge on your right side.

  5. Across the Front: Cross the wide end over the front of the knot from right to left.

  6. Around the Back: Wrap the wide end behind the knot from left to right.

  7. Up and Through Again: Bring the wide end upward again, passing it down through the loop around your neck. This time, it should emerge on your left side.

  8. Adjust and Tighten: Hold the narrow end with one hand and slide the knot upward with the other. Tighten the knot by pulling the wide end gently. Adjust until the tie is snug and symmetrical.

  9. Final Adjustments: Adjust the length and width of the tie until it looks balanced. The tip of the tie should ideally touch the top of your belt.

Congratulations, you've tied a Windsor knot! Practice makes perfect, so don't hesitate to try it a few times until you get comfortable with the process.
